Luka Modric is the winner of the 17th Golden Foot 2019, taking over Edison Cavani, awarded in 2018.
The prestigious and international distinction was given on Tuesday November 12th on the occasion of the ceremony awards that took place in the Fairmont Hotel, Monte Carlo.

The Croatian football star playing in the Real Madrid accepted the trophy of the golden foot from Louis Ducruet and then left his footprints, thereby joining the Olympus of the best football players of all times.
“This is an emotional moment and I am glad to receive this prize – said Luka Modric – It’s important for me and for my carrier. I am truly honored to be part of all the champions of yesterday and of today, because the Golden Foot is both aspecial and a unique award, you can only receive it once in your life”. Concerning his future, he added: “I really like being a part of the Real Madrid, I have a contract to comply with and still have a great amount of work to do with the team.”

Luka Modric’s footprints will then be turned into bronze to be added to the footprints of the other world football champions, more than a hundred, all having received the Golden Foot, along the Champions Promenade in Monaco.

According to Antonio Caliendo, who created the Golden Foot in 2003, this year’s event is, again, unforgetable.
This year’s legends went on the Salle d’Or too in the Fairmont Hotel: Carolina Morace, Paulo Roberto Falcao, Patrick Vieira and José Altafini. They have been given their trophy too and left their footprints. Among the guests were Roberto Carlos, who had received the Golden Foot in 2008.

The Golden Foot Award, unlike other distinctions, can only be won once in a carrier and the player it is awarded to has to be more than 28 years old and still on the football fields. The supporters delivered their verdict, voting for one of the ten candidates of this edition, on the website www.goldenfoot.com.
Luka Modric was the most voted player.
The other nominees: Lionel Messi and Gerard Piqué (Barcellona), Cristiano Ronaldo and Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Wayne Rooney (DC United), Thiago Sylva (PSG).
